A single-vehicle crash on the campus of Richard Stockton College last night killed one student and injured another, Atlantic County Prosecutor Ted Housel announced.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. last night, authorities from the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, Galloway Township Police Department and Stockton College Police Department responded to the scene of the crash. A vehicle was traveling on Stockton’s campus when it impacted with a deer and then several trees, injuring the driver, Joao Simoes, 21, of Newark, and killing the passenger, Joseph Miller, of Medford, who would have been 22 today. Mr. Simoes was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and the Galloway Police Department are investigating the crash. Witnesses are asked to contact Sergeant Kevin Hincks of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office at (609)-909-7667 or Corporal Greg Bollinger of the Galloway Police Department at (609)-652-3705. Notification of next of kin has been made.
