Last year, the top seeded Union Dutchmen garnered their first-ever ECAC Hockey Championship title as they defeated the Harvard Crimson, 3-1. The Dutchmen advanced all the way to the Frozen Four in the 2012 NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament before falling short to the Ferris State Bulldogs in the National Semifinals. The 2012 ECAC Men’s Hockey Championship was presented by the Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority. In March of 2011, the ECAC Hockey Men’s Championship made its debut at Boardwalk Hall.
Boardwalk Hall has a longstanding relationship with the exciting sport of ice hockey. More recently, this past year, the 2012 AHL All-Star Classic was held at Boardwalk Hall, making the first-ever appearance of the AHL’s showcase at a venue outside a league city. And in 2010 and 2011, pro hockey returned to the seaside entertainment center after a brief hiatus for a five-game mini-series featuring the New Jersey Devils minor league teams. On Saturday, November 24, an exhibition hockey game – Operation Hat Trick – will be contested in the Hall. Proceeds will benefit Empire Relief Fund, NJ Hurricane Relief Fund and American Red Cross, aiding families affected by Hurricane Sandy. The AHL Albany Devils will also be coming back to Boardwalk Hall this winter to play four regular-season games on Sunday, November 25 vs. Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins, Sunday, January 13 vs. Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Sunday, January 20 vs. the Adirondack Phantoms, and Sunday, February 24 vs. Hershey Bears.
