Three 2012 Outdoor Driving Champions Among Early TQ Midget Entries For Boardwalk Hall Indoor Races
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ - The list of TQ Midget drivers entered for the February 1-2, 2013 Len Sammons Motorsports Productions Indoor Auto Races will ultimately approach seven dozen. Among the earliest entries are three who earned major series or individual high profile track championships in 2012.
Boardwalk Hall first played host to indoor auto racing in 1938. The 2013 running at Boardwalk Hall will be the eleventh event under Len Sammons Motorsports Productions. These races in Atlantic City will be part of a three race series that includes indoor races in Baltimore, MD on December 8 and Providence, RI on December 31.
There will be a number of talented drivers to look out for at the upcoming 2013 races at Boardwalk Hall. Tim Buckwalter of Pottstown, PA., the recently crowned 2012 ARDC Midget driving champion, is looking for his first win indoors. Buckwalter has run well in past Boardwalk Hall events despite not running these cars routinely.
Ted Christopher of Plainville, CT., a five time indoor winner between Atlantic City and Providence, is the 2012 Stafford (CT) Motor Speedway track king. Also, Ryan Tidman of Levittown, PA. will be a contender in the indoor races after having won the 2012 ATQMRA Three Quarter Midget outdoor championship for the second straight year.
TQ entries of local interest include Matt Remick of Brick, NJ, Felix Verlangieri of Toms River, NJ, and Neal Williams of Pittsgrove, NJ. Each will be attempting to qualify for the rugged TQ Midget main event for the first time. Remick will move up from Champ Kart racing to run a TQ this year for the first time. Verlangieri, formerly a Wall Stadium paved track Modified standout, will make his TQ debut as well while Williams comes off a spectacular season as a Modified dirt track Rookie.
Entries have also been coming in at a steady rate for the Champ Kart, 600 Micro Sprint, and Slingshot classes. An intriguing entry in the Slingshot class is from Andy Bachetti, a dirt track standout from Sheffield, MA.
The schedule of events in Atlantic City calls for qualifing activity for all four classes on Friday, February 1, followed by a 20-lap 600 Micro feature and a 30-lap TQ Midget main event. On Saturday, February 2, once qualifying establishes the starting field, the 600 Micros will compete in a 20-lap feature, Slingshots in a 25-lap finale, and Champ Karts in a like distance main event while the TQ Midgets conclude the two-days of racing with a 40-lap climactic feature. The series is being sponsored by Fatheadz who is well known in the Midwest and associated with open wheel racing due to heavy marketing within the Sprint car and Midget ranks since its founding days. Fatheadz also sponsors other forms of motorsports throughout the country.
